The Teaching Excellence and Student Outcomes Framework (TEF) is a national exercise, introduced by the government in England. It assesses excellence in teaching at universities and colleges, and how well they ensure excellent outcomes for their students in terms of graduate-level employment or further study. Participating universities and colleges can achieve a rating of gold, silver, or bronze – or provisional if they do not have enough data for a full award.
The TEF awards are decided by an independent panel of experts. The panel is made up of academics who lead and teach at UK higher education providers; students; and experts on employment and widening participation in higher education. The TEF Panel judged the ratings based on six main metrics based on national data, supplementary data where available, and a submission of additional evidence supplied by each university or college.
In 2018 BNU was awarded Silver in the Teaching Excellence and Student Outcomes Framework (TEF).

All our staff take responsibility for maintaining quality and for providing the best student experience. Our Academic Registry team manages our policies, processes and regulations that set out our expectations and requirements for quality assurance and quality enhancement of our provision.
Buckinghamshire New University is a fully inclusive learning environment, where everyone is welcome and every student is given the chance to discover new things, push themselves and thrive. If you have particular needs, or you feel that certain adjustments would enhance your studies, then we can help. We offer a range of support to make sure everyone benefits at Buckinghamshire New University.
The quality of our teaching has been independently assured by the UK Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA), who publish the UK Quality Code. We’ve been awarded the QAA Quality Mark for meeting or exceeding UK expectations for quality and standards in our QAA review.
Our last institutional audit in 2010 found that confidence can reasonably be placed in the soundness of our University’s present and likely future management of
